3 good reasons to visit Copenhagen this winter

Denmark is said to be the country of happy people, and for good reason: its welcoming cosmopolitan capital has a way of living that is rich in culture, similar to that of cities in the south of France. It's the perfect place for a break this winter.

1. Stroll hand-in-hand around Christianshavn

Bordered by the canal, Christianshavn is a picturesque area to explore on foot. Wandering through the small streets, you will be able to admire the houses dating from the 18th century, artists' cafés, chic restaurants and small churches with their old-world charm. As for shopping, go and dig out the little treasures found in the underground boutiques, breathe in the fresh scents from the flower displays, and fall for the single-storey artisanal houses. It's the ideal setting to spend time with a loved-one.

2. Discover contemporary structures

In Copenhagen, old buildings nestle against cutting-edge modern designs, such as Norman Foster's elephant house, the functional architecture of the SAS Royal Hotel by Anne Jacobsen and the granite extension of the National Library, nicknamed the "black diamond", created by architects Morten Schmidt, Bjarne Hammer and John F. Lassen. This is just a handful of the many gems tucked away in the Danish capital, without forgetting the DR Konserthuset, a symphonic concert hall designed by Jean Nouvel.

3. Try Scandinavian cuisine

Nordic cuisine is packed with delicious flavors. Don't leave without having tasted a Smorrebrod, a local sandwich filled with herring, salmon, meat or vegetables - perfect for lunch on the go. Next, make a stop at the Meyers Bageri bakery in order to taste the traditional and tasty cinnamon-flavored brioche. If you're in the mood for more refined cooking, simply reserve a table at one of the city's 15 Michelin-starred restaurants . Our recommendation is the Noma, run by chef René Redzepi.

Before stepping out in the low temperatures of Copenhagen, don't forget to protect your skin from the cold with a rich and smooth cream with added SPF.
